As I await the birth of my Grandson, I have been working on inventory awnings.
This is a 7 1/2' x 7 1/2' arched awning with shock poles. The material is Grey/Beige Chip Fancy Sunbrella marine grade awning fabric. It has Sunbrella Grey braid trim on the scalloped valances.
Pockets are formed in the facings for the shock poles.
There is a tie strap on the underside to secure where the shock poles cross.
The 7/16" diameter shock poles arch the awning up for added height underneath and incline for rain runoff.
The shock poles hold the shape, however tie down lines are still necessary to keep the awning anchored due to the wind.
Testing out the shock pole lengths in my dining room!
The awning ships for $18.00 in a medium flat rate box.
The shock poles ship separately in a 36' x 5' x 2' rectangular box weighing 2 pounds 13 ounces. So this cost varies by zip code. (Ranging from approximately $17.00 West Coast, $12.00 Mid-country, $10.00 East Coast)

#vintagetrailerawnings
Since my children are grown, and flew the coup many years ago, sometimes it takes a while for me to catch up with the times!
I was told that searching with the pound sign is what is common now. Excuse me, hashtag I mean!
So this is an experiment!

2018 VW Arched Awning Ready To Mail
The first VW Arched Awning for 2018 is boxed and ready to mail. This Volkswagen Westfalia Bus awning is 8' x 8', with shock poles to arch it up, for more height underneath and incline for rain run off. It is designed to attach to the rain gutter on the vintage VW Bus.
Here I am testing the lengths on the shock poles, to arch up the VW Awning.

As pictured, you can see that the shock poles hold the form of the Westfalia arched awning even when upside down.
The shock poles will have a tie on the underside to secure where the shock poles cross.
For the picture, while testing the poles a Velcro strap is temporarily holding them.
A rain gutter pole inserts into the casing along the edge and is held into the rain gutter by a variety of different types of clamps. Due to the rain gutter pole and the shock poles, shipping costs vary by location zip code.
Inquire at for pricing and shipping estimate.
I do have Pre-Made VW awnings in 7 1/2 rain gutter lengths boxed and ready to mail. One is Fern Heather Beige Block Stripe Sunbrella SOLD and the other is Baycrest Pacific. SOLD

2018 Starts Off With A Variety Of Awning Projects
Despite the brutal Georgia temperatures, and having had the flu, I managed to complete a variety of projects so far in 2018.
Pictured are some different types of awnings.
Some customers own several trailers. So, in this case their main awning fit both trailers, and they wanted two different sized matching Rock Guard Awnings.
Another customer wanted an 8' x 8' arched awning. Here the shock poles are being tested for size. This pattern is Sunbrella Forest Green Natural marine grade awning fabric.
This customer ordered a very long awning with a large matching front window awning.
Up next is a VW Westfalia Bus arched awning, which I am working on today. This one will be 8' x 8' in Taupe Tailored Bar Stripe. Pictured is an example of another VW arched awning that I made last year.
Moving forward I will be making a 12' x 9' Airstream awning made with Sunbrella Manhattan Classic.
Vintage Trailer Awnings by Kristi also makes clip on window awnings for some of the vintage Airstream crank out awning windows. Hope this information gives you an idea of some of the other products available for orders.
Happy Valentine's Day, Kristi

Another Snow Storm In Georgia!
Since I work from home, I have no excuse for being unable to get to the office. However in these poorly insulated southern homes, the 17 degree temperature with an even colder wind-chill, makes my basement workshop an ice-box.
It is supposed to be in the 60's by the end of the week.
This has been a very cold, unusual January, for living south of Atlanta.
Days like today, I am able to cut out awnings upstairs, update my Blog, and answer awning questions. However, I will not be sewing!

Back To Work In January 2018
Due to the arctic blast in Georgia, I started back to work a little later than anticipated.
When the temperatures were in the teens, with a windchill that felt more like 5 degrees, my basement workshop was like an ice-box!
This week I was able to make the first two awnings for the 2018 awning making season.

We also had a rare snowfall in mid-December, so I will share a few pictures.

How To Repair A Damaged Vintage Trailer Awning
I originally made this Sunbrella Coastal Spa 15' awning for my nephew and his wife. I had informed them to repair the awning rail on their vintage trailer, before using the new awning. However, the young couple forgot to. Needless to say, damage was incurred during their very first time out camping. Other campers, trying to help the "Newbies" set up, forced the awning through a dented, dinged up awning rail, with rough edges. So, let me use this as a reminder, to always clean out your awning rail, and check for any damage each year before going camping.
Their trailer was beyond their skill level to repair, so it was sold within the first year. I told them I would repair their awning and see if anyone else wanted it
Another young family purchased the repaired awning, and used it extensively for 6 more years, before a severe storm took it's toll on it.
Since it was Sunbrella marine grade awning fabric, I agreed to make repairs again, knowing it had many more years of use ahead.
It was tedious removing so many stitches, but I was able to free up the fabric covered pull cord, to replace the damaged, previously repaired section again. The pull cord also was starting to fray, so I wrapped each strands with double sided Sunbrella seam tape. I am waiting on washable fabric glue to arrive, to re-twist the rest of the cord.
#awningrepair
Next I inserted both repaired ends of the fabric covered pull cord into my c-channel awning rail, to be sure they would slide through past the repairs. Thankfully, they did!
This repair was not for the faint of heart, so to speak! An awning with "wounds" needing surgery, after many years of continuous use, in all types of weather. Many stitches were removed to access the areas, many more stitches were needed to replace and repair all of the damage. Weak, frayed, areas were reinforced with Sunbrella seam tape and Fray Check. Popped grommets were replaced after reinforcing with interfacing and re-contouring the holes. I hope this information is useful, as a reminder to always repair your awning rails, and clean them out each year before setting up your awning. Dings and dents will happen, while pulling into campsites, or even while stored when branches fall. This particular awning had been repaired once 6 years ago, so I am hoping it will provide at least 6 more years for this family to enjoy, on their many travels across the great USA.

I had a scrap of fabric stored away in a dresser drawer for 7 years. As you can see the awning hasn't faded over the years, even with extensive use. |
Before I replaced the popped grommets, I tucked some interfacing into the hole, reshaped the hole and placed new grommets. |
Here again you can see the fabric scrap next to the 7 year old awning. Also, see the repaired fabric covered pull cord. |
